Ara Mina, Naiyak Matapos Pag-Usapan ang Kalagayan ng Kapatid Niya na May Down Syndrome

Down syndrome is a life-long condition which impairs the cognitive, verbal, social abilities of the individual. This condition is a challenge not only to the person, but also to their family or loved ones. Former actress Ara Mina knows the challenges of this situation too well, because she also has a sister who was diagnosed with Down syndrome.

Ara Mina’s youngest sister, Mina Princess Klenk, also referred to as “Batching,” was diagnosed with Down syndrome. Right from the start, the former actress has always been open about their struggles as sisters. In spite of that, she never stopped supporting and loving Batching.

“To be honest, medyo mahirap. Pero mas hirap ’yung mommy ko. ’Pag hirap na ’yung mommy ko, pinapasa niya na sakin si Mina kasi they (people with Down syndrome) have tantrums. Dapat dalasan ‘yung activities. I-treat sila as normal para maging normal din ’yung mga actions nila.”

During her interview, Ara couldn’t help but turn emotional as she looks back on their struggles in taking care of Batching. On the brighter side, she also shared that Batching has a celebrity crush, and she even pretended that he was the father of her imaginary baby.

“May crush to! Diba sabay sabay kaming nagbuntis ng sisters ko, sabi niya (Batching) one time ‘Ate buntis ako.’ I asked her, ‘Sinong tatay?’ Si Paulo Avelino daw. Pag tinanong mo siya kung kanino siya sasama, sa’kin daw or kay Holy (their brother).”

Ara Mina continued her advocacy in helping children with Down Syndrome. The actress shared the cause is close to her heart because of her sister. In 2018, the former actress organized a fun run for young people with Down syndrome. This event was also spearheaded by many celebrities.
